The actual location of Emmanuel Village has a long history and tradition which
many find interesting. This area, originally called Centreville, was well beyond
Kitchener’s city limits back in 1923, when it became the site for annual
camp meetings held by the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church.
Evangelical services were
held in a huge tent every summer, and people from varied denominations came to
participate. Interest and attendance kept growing year by year, and it became
apparent that better facilities were needed. Soon a permanent tabernacle, dining
hall and cabins were built.
Over time, these buildings
were renovated for various purposes as needed, including the faculty offices,
library, administration building, and student dormitories of today’s Emmanuel
Bible College. The beautiful wooded campus was part of the original camp ground,
and has been preserved and improved.
